04.20.2009 Rider, Hunter, and Thompson shine at Pikes Peak International Raceway.
04.06.2009 Even though Colorado's ever-changing weather caused the first SCCA event at the new High Plains Raceway to be cancelled this last weekend, the FRM team looks ahead to the first Double National of the year at Pikes Peak International Raceway. Originally scheduled for Pueblo Motorsports Park, the Double National was recently changed to the newly available track just south of Colorado Springs.
Veteran drivers Dwight Rider, John Brumder, and Zach Craigo will be competing in the Formula Continental Class, while Tyler Hunter will be attending in his Formula Enterprise entry. Each driver will be competing for the Rocky Mountain Region National Points Championship. Rider leads the group with two National wins already this season, but Brumder's experience and Craigo's speed will create a challenge for all cars in the FC class. Hunter's the reigning National Champion in the FE class and looks to continue his success in 2009.
The 1.3 mile road course located in the infield of the one mile oval is far from complicated, but what it lacks in style, it makes up for with tricky high speed corners and a difficult infield section where the slightest mistake will cost you track position. Spectacular facilities and great, competitive racing will give the event a luster that will make most National drivers dust the snow and cob webs off their machines to come out and be part of the first Double National in Colorado in 2009.
01.18.2009 The FRM team started off the 2009 season in sunny, southern Arizona at The RoomStore Double National SCCA event held at Phoenix International Raceway with veteran team drivers Dwight Rider, Jose Gerardo, and Barry Gilbert. The three day event gave the team a chance to escape the cold weather and to shake some of the winter bugs out of the cars.
After missing the majority of Friday testing and Saturday morning qualifying due to a broken input shaft, Rider started race one from the back of the 20 car, mixed group field. On sticker Hoosier tires he was able to quickly catch the other members of the FC class as they battled for position. Contact with teammate Gilbert left the 3 car sidelined as Rider went on to his first National win since 2007. Rider started from the pole of the FC class in race two on Sunday and went unchallenged nearly besting the track record.
Gerardo made an unscheduled pit stop in race one due to a black flag, but was still able to finish second as Gilbert sat with the corner workers in turn nine with broken left rear suspension. Gilbert came back in race two and was able to pass Gerardo halfway through the race on the front straight as Gerardo was beginning to run out of fuel on the oval banking ultimately finishing third.
It was overall a successful weekend for the team, gathering five of six possible podium spots. Now that the first race of the year is out of the way, they can begin to concentrate on an extensive test schedule before the inaugural race at High Plains Raceway in April in hopes of an ever-improving effort from both team and drivers.
12.09.2008 As winter sets in and snow blankets the Colorado front range, the FRM team continues to gear up for another great season in 2009. The team has been busy moving their race shop from Englewood to Aurora, CO, in hopes of creating a home where progress will be the base platform for the future. The 2009 season looks to be as exciting as the 2008 season, mixing up SCCA club racing and Pro F-2000 racing. New shop information, as well as new driver information will become available as it arises.
09.24.2008 The FRM team looks to field at least 3 cars at this year's SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Heartland Park Topeka, and possibly a fourth. After a fifth place finish in 2007, Jose Gerardo aims to take a step on the podium in his Formula Continental. John Brumder will see his first Runoffs in the FC Class in a number of years, but with a third place finish in 2001, will not be overlooked by his competitors. Tyler Hunter will make his debut at the Runoffs in his Formula Enterprise entry; after a stellar year in the Rocky Mountain Division, Hunter is definitely a contender in this year's championship. Still on the fence is driver Zach Craigo, who hopes to end his racing year on a positive note, while gearing up to graduate from the University of Northern Colorado.
The team will spend nearly 2 weeks in Topeka testing, qualifying, and racing at this year's National Championship Runoffs in hopes of top finishes for all drivers underneath the tent.
09.01.2008 In preparation for the SCCA National Championship Runoffs in October, the FRM team brought drivers Tyler Hunter and Jose Gerardo to Heartland Park Topeka this past Labor Day weekend. Running in the Formula Continental class, Gerardo took the top spot on the podium both days, edging out John McMurray by .028 seconds in the final race, Monday afternoon. Hunter, running in the Formula Enterprise class, suffered from tire degradation in race 1, finishing 5th, and contact from a Formula Atlantic car ended his race on Monday. Both drivers led the Rocky Mountain Division in their respective classes and have an excellent opportunity when it comes time to decide the National Champions of the SCCA.
08.24.2008 Beautiful weather, a thrilling track, and the excitement of the American LeMans Series added to another great weekend for the FRM team at Mosport International Raceway. After getting off to a rough start, Dwight Rider overcame his Thursday test day crash and finished in the top 15 both days and the top 5 of the Master's class in the F2000 Championship Series, sponsored by Hoosier. After returning to his car for the first time since April, John Brumder took a few sessions to get settled in the car, eventually finishing in the top 20 both days and top 10 in the Master's class. Each driver improved their times as each session progressed, putting them in the mix of a very competitive field at a very fast and difficult track. The team will have a few days to recuperate before leaving for Topeka Labor Day weekend with team drivers, Tyler Hunter and Jose Gerardo.
08.18.2008 For the first and only time this year, the FRM team will go north of the border to participate in rounds 11 and 12 of the F2000 Championship Series. Drivers Dwight Rider and John Brumder will see the thrilling Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, for the first time and look forward to another eventful weekend. Coming off a rough weekend at Road America, Rider will once again be near the top of the charts in the Master's Division of the Series. Brumder returns from a 3 race sabbatical while he played the role of "farmer" in Virginia. He looks forward to getting back in the car for his last race of the season with the team. Pairing up with the American LeMans Series, this weekend marks the pinnacle date on the calendar for the younger stars of the F2000 Championship Series to be seen by the upper divisions of American road racing. It will prove to be one of the most exciting race weekends for the series in 2008 at Canada's fastest road course.

07.07.2008 The FRM team scored big at the Fourth of July Double National SCCA event at La Junta Raceway in Colorado. Tyler Hunter scored two wins and set a new official track record for FE on Sunday. Mark Felsen also walked away with two wins in FA. Joining the team for the weekend were FC drivers Barry Gilbert and Jose Gerardo. Gilbert brought home the class win on Saturday, while Gerardo claimed top honors on Sunday.
05.25.2008 Front Range Motorsports traveled to Miller Motorsports Park in Utah for the Memorial Day Double National SCCA races May 23-25. FRM driver Zach Craigo dominated the FC class all weekend, scoring two poles and two wins. Starting from the pole on Saturday, Zach ran uncontested for the win. Sunday saw Zach fall to second on the start, but a consistent pace brought him back to the front, passing for the lead later in the race. Joining FRM for the weekend was Tyler Hunter, a quick FE driver from Colorado. Tyler started second on Saturday, finishing in the same spot after a race long battle for the lead. Sunday started as a replay of race one, with Tyler battling with the FE leader while dealing with interspersed FA traffic. After a late race full course yellow, Tyler made the pass for the lead on the last lap to take the win, setting a new lap record for the FE class in the process.
01.20.2008 FRM started the year off with a bang by sweeping the Double National SCCA races at Phoenix International Raceway this weekend. Team driver John Brumder stood atop the Formula Continental podium each day as a result of his first place finishes in both ends of the double header event. Dwight Rider backed up Brumder, finishing a strong second on Saturday and third on Sunday. The FRM team will return to Colorado for continued testing of their Zetec powered Van Diemens in preparation for the upcoming 2008 F2000 Championship Series.
01.14.2008 The FRM team heads to Arizona this weekend for the Sports Car Club of America national races at Phoenix International Raceway. Team drivers Dwight Rider and John Brumder will be using the event for practice and testing in preparation for the upcoming F2000 Championship Series. The team will also be supporting their Club Racing drivers in the Formula Continental class.
